What is the company’s approach to professional development?
"We have formal and informal professional development. Some professional development programs include “Trainee Tuesday,” internal/external mentorships, company or industry expert speakers, encouraged to attend development courses and industry events. Our favourite approach to professional development is to encourage our team to get out of their comfort zone and try something new, like putting a team member on a panel when they haven't previously been a public speaker."
What is the company's culture like?
"We're a remote first company with no head office anywhere. Culture is paramount to us, and the way we achieve that is through trust, transparency and fun. Every single person in the business is responsible for cultivating and scaling the right culture. We're an open book even down to Company financials with the team, due to being remote we've perfected the art of aysnc and synchronous communication and we provide our team with the freedom and trust to be autonomous. We also do regular in person and online social catch ups with a company wide off-site at the end of every year. The other part of it is supporting the work/life balance. Everyone works really hard but at the same, but there are no long nights of work here. The biggest part that makes our team stay is a no ego policy when hiring as well, makes for a harmonious workplace. "
What are the company's plans for the next 12 months?
Growing a great team in Australia and the UK as we build out our first expansion market. We've worked really hard to create a name for ourselves in a short time within the construction industry and we'll capitalise this to ensure we keep growing at pace. However, no matter what we do, our customers will always be at the heart of it and front of mind, so ensuring the product is always being developed to what the industry needs is paramount to us.
How do you approach diversity and inclusion?
"Diversity and inclusion isn't a tickbox for us. There's a very prevalent problem in the tech industry but also the construction industry when it comes to creating environments that foster diversity and inclusion. We wanted to create an environment where everyone feels valued and respected. To foster an inclusive culture, we encourage open communication, and provide opportunities for education and growth. We write our job ads using gender neutral language, every single round of interviews has to provide opportunities to people from diverse backgrounds and for us a person from a diverse background has to conduct interviews from our side as well to provide perspective. To us, diversity and inclusion goes beyond hiring, so we have put in place systems to help create better futures for the women/non-binary people in our team, for example, we have a fortnightly confidence building workshop, we actively seek to get our team mentoring or speaking at events, education on other cultures etc. We're also working with Government and Industry partners like Tafe NSW to encourage more women in the construction industry, as this goes beyond just us.
