What is the company’s approach to professional development?
"At Propeller, we ask you to invest in the future success of the company. Therefore, we think it is only fair that we invest in your future success. We genuinely want to support you in working towards your professional goals, regardless of whether:* Your future goals are within Propeller or not * Your goal is to further your current skill set, or work towards something longer termWe believe that learning is one of the most important and rewarding aspects of life and work, and that by supporting you in reaching your goals through learning, we will gain a more engaged, happy and healthy human. We support this by providing each of our employees with a dedicated professional development budget and additional annual leave. In addition, we run quarterly mentoring programs within the business which allows our employees to step up as mentors or mentees. This program has been hugely successful and the most recent iteration has 20% of the entire company participating as either a mentor or mentee. This has allowed our employees to develop personal and professional skills whilst building the collaboration amongst our teams. Propeller also encourages all employees to explore new roles within the business and we've seen our internal mobility rate continue to grow. In the last 12 months, 30% of the team have changed roles or had a promotion.Lastly, we understand leadership is an aspiration for many people so we encourage this in any way we can. We ran a future leaders cohort for people who were interested in leadership but may not be in the position right now, and we successfully had 19 employees go through this. "
What is the company's culture like?
"Propeller's culture is filled with diversity and differences but one big aspect that unites us all is the value of authenticity. Authenticity in the work which we contribute to, authenticity in our interactions both inside and outside the organisation and most importantly, the authenticity to ourselves when we turn up each and every day. We are a bunch of open minded, data loving, humble humans that all joined the business to make a positive impact on the world and we remind each other of that through our work. We are also fun loving and enjoy each other's company so we have lots of regular events which celebrate cultural diversity, major world events and company milestones. One major instance of this was the company retreat we hosted in March 2023 in Vietnam. We were able to bring together a majority of our global team, all in one location and spend a week connecting and learning about each other. We shared business goals, brainstormed new ideas but most importantly focused on connecting with people we wouldn't normally be able to. It was a resounding success and really embodies the type of values we care about at Propeller. On top of the events, we run biannual CultureAmp surveys to keep a pulse on the feelings of our staff. The entire people and leadership team take actionable insights from these surveys to guide our quarterly goal setting. One such example of this was some feedback we had received regarding our working from home benefits in relation to the Philippines team and we were able to quickly adjust our benefits within the quarter to reflect recent market changes. We review salary bandings and market conditions on a regular basis as well to ensure our staff are in a fair range compared to the rest of the market in both compensation and benefits. Lastly we are aware that being your best self at work, requires you to be your best self out of it as well. So to achieve this we provide mental health supporting initiatives and workplace flexibility options. This has allowed our teams to find a balance and really blend their lives in with their work, instead of choosing one or the other to prioritise. "
What are the company's plans for the next 12 months?
"We want Propeller to be a profitable and sustainable company that is growing as a result of becoming the market leader in our space. Propeller is still in its its scale up phase, so there is plenty to focus on in the upcoming 12 months but a few are highlighted below. Growing our customer base is a big priority for Propeller over the coming 12 months and there are several ways we aim to achieve this. We are creating a new tier in the Propeller platform to appeal to larger enterprise customers, allowing us to cross the technology chasm from an emerging technology to a household product and brand. We also have grown our marketing and sales department and their efforts will be on refocusing and relaunching our brand in order to assist in lead generation. Supporting these customers is also critical in our ability to retain them so we are focusing on improving our ability to process our customer data both accurately and at scale. This requires a focus on automation of certain technologies, allowing for processing efficiency whilst improving the relationship that our customer success teams has with our accounts. Lastly, we believe that Propeller is bridging the world of Surveying and GIS . We believe that the map is not just the source of information, but the home of collaboration on our client's site all around the world. For this reason we are investing into building more GIS related features like importing media onto the map, mobile first features and other technology such as LiDAR, thermal and multispectral imagery. "
How do you approach diversity and inclusion?
"Propeller's approach to diversity and inclusion is to look at it from a holistic perspective. This includes how we can be better internally and externally, how we can shed light on differences and what our role is as a company in influencing the communities around us. At the core, we embed inclusion and belonging into everything we do. Firstly we have diversity and inclusion initiatives built into how we hire and retain our staff. We don't just set targets and goals; instead, we focus on providing our hiring teams with a diverse candidate pool and tailor roles to fill gaps in our current team's composition. We know that diversity in our teams brings forth great ideas and collaboration so we bake it into each step of our process instead of trying to fit candidates into a rigid job description.Secondly, we make sure to focus a lot of our attention to how we highlight our team's diversity through events and talks. We have an internal JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) community that organises monthly initiatives such as talks and presentations hosted by our team. This allows all our voices to be heard and has allowed our team to understand each other on a much more personal level. We also ensure that we celebrate global diversity focused days such as international women's day and Pride month. We take every opportunity we can to celebrate our differences day to day. This can be seen in our employee owned company blog, and most evidently at our recent company retreat. We had multiple sessions a day dedicated towards sharing stories of vulnerability and discussing what vulnerability, authenticity and diversity meant to each of us. Lastly, we recognise that fostering diversity and inclusivity within our industry begins at its roots. To actively contribute, we engage in initiatives such as University career fairs and conducting engineering internships aimed at attracting diverse talent to our team. The success we've achieved through these efforts reinforces our commitment to advocating for DEI-related programs and partnering with the right educational institutions to encourage a diverse student base to come join the technology world!"
